Bright Eye Makeup: Tropical Shades at Dior

Vivid liners and shadows lit up eyes at the spring fashion shows, as makeup artists swapped out basic black and brown for nearly every shade of the rainbow. Here’s how to take the trend from the runway to real life.

The Runway: Makeup artist Pat McGrath spread lime green, fuchsia, and sky blue creams—one shade per model—on the lids, grounding the look with black liquid liner along the top lashes and lots of mascara. The lips, also bright, ranged from berry to orange-red.

The Real Way: With bright colors on the eyes and lips, this is a lot of look—but there’s a way to do it without going overboard. Draw just the thinnest swipe of liner along the upper lashes. Make Up For Ever’s new Aqua Liners come in a variety of shades. Or try using powder shadow to line the eye; it gives a softer effect than cream (we like Lancôme Design Eyeshadow in Best Dressed, a beautiful turquoise, or Yves Saint Laurent Ombre Solo Smoothing Eye Shadow in 16, a clear sky blue). Wear a stripe of turquoise with a fuchsia-berry lip shade, like Dior Addict Lipstick in Shocking Rose, or pair teal green with a coral-orange lipstick, like L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Lipstick in Volcanic.
