Scottish Fashion Awards 2010

Sunday June 20th- Held at the magnificent Glasgow Science Centre, fashion’s brightest (and upcoming) stars gathered to celebrate creativity and innovation in design at the 5th annual Scottish Fashion Awards.

Scotland’s identity in the fashion realm was on full display with an array of appearances by fashion’s top power players walking down the tartan–a traditional twist on the red carpet. Attendees included, Graeme Black, Peter Jensen, Antonio Berardi, Louise Gray, and David Gandy to name a few.

The SFA founded and chaired by Tessa Hartman was indeed a glamorous affair. An evening dedicated to celebrate homegrown Scottish talent and lavish rightful recognition in their respective categories. Brian Duffy (President of Ralph Lauren Europe), Dolly Jones (Editor of, Nathalie Colin (Creative Director Swarovski), Lucy Yeomans (Editor of Harpers Bazaar), Paula Reed (Style Director of Grazia), Designer Amanda Wakeley, Professor Wendy Dagworthy (Head of Fashion &Textiles at RCA, London), Brigitte Stepputis (Head of Couture Vivienne Westwood), Richard Walker (Editor, Sunday Herald), and Hilary Alexander (Fashion Director Daily Telegraph) rounded out the impressive panel of judges who had the difficult task of selecting this year’s winner among the nominees.

The coveted Scottish Designer of the year went to the dynamic Jonathan Saunders. Best known for his work with prints and traditional silk screening methods, Saunders designs are both daring and chic in his use of color and silhouettes. Saunders is also the creative director of the Milan fashion house Pollini. He has designed for Target, Topshop, and was recently commissioned by Disney to create a couture graphic tee in honor of the premiere of Toy Story 3.
