Gorgeous Hairstyles – Ideas for Hair That Shows Off Your Best Features

It Plays Up:
Your flawless skin.

“This style acts like a photo frame, making your complexion the focus,” says Kristan Serafino, an NYC celebrity stylist.

How to Work It:
Massage a volumizer (we like Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Lemon Sage Thickening Spray, $14) onto damp roots. “Next, blow-dry hair, pulling sections upward with a brush for lift,” says Serafino. Once hair is dry, spray your fingers with hair spray (try Catwalk by Tigi Your Highness Firm Hold Hairspray, $20), and run them through strands, pushing hair off the face.

Straight Shooter

It Plays Up:
Your killer cleavage.

“Straight hair directs onlookers’ eyes downward — perfect for showing off an amazing pair,” says Serafino.

How to Work It:
Part dry hair down the middle, and apply a heat protectant, such asSamy Heat Guard, $5. Starting at the roots, flatiron small sections no wider than the width of the iron. “Otherwise, it’s like jamming a notepad into a paper shredder — it won’t go through smoothly,” says Serafino. Whisk sections through the iron; don’t rest or squeeze the plates too tightly or you’ll create dents. Finally, add a little shine to the ends (we like Aveeno Nourish+ Style Smoothing Shine Crème, $7), then pull hair in front of your shoulders.

I’m with the Band

It Plays Up:
Your amazing eyes.

“The ribbon color picks up on the blacks of your pupils, shifting the attention there,” says Serafino.

How to Work It:
Apply a styling lotion, like Garnier Fructis Style Sleek & Shine Styling Cream, $4, to damp hair, then blow-dry with a round brush for smooth but lifted strands. Next, apply spray wax (we like Salon by Sally Hershberger Texture Blast, $24) for stay-put texture, says stylist Mark Townsend, who created this look for January Jones’s 2010 Golden Globes appearance. Tease roots to create up-top volume, then gather hair into a bun or twist, securing it with bobby pins. Finally, wrap a black ribbon just behind your hairline. “It should be long enough to tie in a knot at the nape of your neck—just snip off the ends or let them hang,” says Townsend. To prevent the ribbon from slipping, cross two bobby pins in an X on each side of the knot.
