It was a double awards day for “SamCam”, today. Mrs Cameron emerged in a new role as “Forces Sweetheart”, and also topped a style poll of the top ten best-dressed women in politics, nudging Michelle Obama and Carla Bruni Sarkozy into second and third place, respectively.

The Tory leader’s wife was appointed a patron of the Tickets for Troops charity, last night, following a performance of the musical, Oliver, at the Theatre Royal, in Drury Lane, London, where she met the cast and injured servicemen.

She joins Dame Vera Lynn, Joanna Lumley, Sir Ian Botham, and Gary Lineker, who are also patrons of the charity, which was established by the Conservatives last year to offer free tickets to military personnel to sporting and cultural events. Supporters include Manchester United, Arsenal and Everton, and venues include the O2 Arena and the Hammersmith Apollo.

Mrs Cameron’s style award came courtesy of theMyCelebrityFashion.co.uk website, which asked 1,334 women between the ages of 18 and 30 to examine images of politically-involved women on the global stage, and to choose the three most stylish.
