Emma Watson wears Christopher Kane

27Mar10

Being a world-famous actress sure has its perks, not least the easy access to fabulous frocks from some of the world’s most coveted designers. To wit, Emma Watson, said actress in question.

While most of us are getting to grips with summer’s military fatigues, Harry Potter star Watson, 19, has already fashion-forwarded to September, working a demure, but sexy, leather, lace and floral-embroidered dress from Christopher Kane’s autumn/winter 2010 collection, at a party in New York last night. Scottish designer Kane, whose conceptual creations have been championed by American Vogue’s Anna Wintour, only showed his collection at London Fashion Week last month.

Watson is known for her on-the-beat sartorial choices. She was one of the first stars to step out in William Tempest, another hot, young British designer, donning his sheer, body-con navy dress to a premiere. She also favours Californian label Rodarte’s edgy, deconstructed designs and has been snapped in a leather halterneck dress by Proenza Schouler, one of the highlights of the New York season.

The party Watson co-hosted with American Vogue was in support of LONDON show ROOMS, a British Fashion Council initiative which aims to increase the profile of London’s brightest design talents, such as Kane, Mark Fast, Mary Katrantzou and Peter Pilotto in the US.

Chips in on which up-and-coming British designer Watson will wear next: seeing as the young actress has a penchant for leather, our money is on Hannah Marshall’s directional off-the-shoulder leather dress – simple, but beautiful.
